専門はシリア語文学・文献学。ギリシアの哲学・自然科学のシリア語およびアラビア語による伝承を中心に、古代末期から現代に至るまで、地中海の東側からインド、中国まで、シリア語や中東・アジアのキリスト教に関わる様々な事柄に関心を持っています。
　主に行っている（はずな）のは中世期に書き記された写本を扱う研究です。世界中で他に誰も読んでいないであろうテクストを相手に、社会とやらのためにはまずは役に立たないであろう論文を書いて自己満足に浸るというのもなかなか楽しいものです。そんな馬鹿に付き合ってくださる学生さんがおられたら、いつでも大歓迎です。
