もともと、国連人権高等弁務官事務所や、国連の平和維持活動において、主に人権担当官として、ネパール、東チモール、スリランカ、インドネシア、ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ、スイス、紛争国を含む各国で勤務し、移行期の正義、人権・人道法侵害のマッピング（全体像の記録）、治安部門改革、人権法研修に関わって来ました。そのような実務経験を下に、そのような実務の世界に必須でありながら欠如している専門知識や研究に基づく指針・戦略作成の姿勢を求めて、主に国際人権法、国連平和活動（特に警察）の研究をしています。「人間の安全保障」プログラムの専任教員です。紛争中の国際人道法・人権法の重大な侵害についての紛争後の処理、国家機関の再建、そしてどのように一人ひとりの権利を守りながら社会を再建していくのか、ということについて、皆さんと考えていけたらと思います。紛争の質の劇的な変遷に直面する世界に役に立つ提言をしていけるような、今世界にある問題を論理的に考え、研究すること、また、同じような意思を持って世界に出て行かれる次の世代の皆さんのお手伝いをすることを楽しみにしております。
